Shower Filter Ceramic Balls

Here at PureShowers.co.uk we have been in the shower filter business for over 10 years, so when it comes to shower filters and water filters we know what we're on about. In the last few years there's been a new revolution in shower filter mediums, so we have decided we would put together a series of blog posts about all these new types of shower filter mediums.

In this week's series we will be discussing the most popular new shower filter medium - ceramic balls shower filter medium.

Shower filter ceramic balls come in a really huge range of different types of balls with different types of properties. They can be easily identified as they usually are small red balls (but we've seen them in green as well), they shouldn't be confused with out types of shower filter balls which might look the same (ie: have the same ball shape) but in fact are not ceramic balls at all - but are made from other materials and have different properties.

Generally shower filter ceramic balls will look like this:

The Filtering Properties of Ceramics

Ceramic filters have been around for a very long time, there are a huge number of drinking water filter units on the market that are based solely on the water filtering capabilities of ceramics. The primary reason why ceramics are so good at filtering water is because the pore size of ceramics is so small that it can literally filter out dirt, debris, scale and even bacteria from water. Ceramics are so good at filter out bacteria from water that it is actually recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as a proven method of reduction of bacteria in water supplies.

As even something the size of bacteria will be filtered out by ceramics, you can be sure that larger molecules would also be filtered out. Things which are regularly found in tap water such as: heavy metals like iron, copper, lead, aluminium, lime scale, hard particles such as magnesium and calcium can all be filtered out by using ceramics.

One draw back of using ceramics is that it does not filter out chemicals.

Far Infra Red Ceramic Balls

In all of the ceramic balls we have in our shower filters at PureShowers.co.uk - we use Far Infra Red Ceramic balls, also known as FIR Ceramic Balls. So what's with the FIR bit? Well as you now know ceramics are an amazing filtering material which can really get rid of a lot of contaminants in shower water. When Ceramic balls are mixed with another naturally occurring stone called tourmaline, instead of just taking out impurities in water - these balls actually vitalise the water with health benefitting properties. Tourmaline is an amazing natural stone with some very unique properties, research in Japan has found that it always carries a weak electric charge of 0.06mA. This electric charge is imbedded into the stone naturally by the far infra red rays of the sun. As water passes through the ceramic balls which are enhanced with tourmaline it releases FIR molecules at wavelengths between 4 and 16 microns.

But what are far infra red rays and why are they beneficial for the body? Dr. Edward Group founder of the Global Healing Centre said it best when he said, "Far Infrared therapy (FIR) involves the use of Far Infrared rays to gently heal, soothe, stimulate and detox the physical body, as well as the mind."

There are just so many benefits from FIR therapy we couldn't possibly list them all, but here are just some:

  • FIR therapy very gently increases blood flow and increases oxygenation and regeneration of blood.
  • The increased blood flow and regeneration has a detoxifying effect on the body.
  • It can help boost your immune system by increasing the amount of white blood cells. So helps to promote healing and sore muscles
  • FIR can help to heal scar tissue

You can find even more information about the benefits of FIR and scientific studies conducted with FIR on this website: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3699878/
