It was just a couple of weeks ago that we reported that a group of 25 scientists at the MET office in June predicted that we were going to have gloomy and wet summers for the next 10 years. They concluded that the UK was in the middle of a 10-20 year "cycle" of wet summers. How much more wrong could they have been?

With London and UK hitting some of the highest temperatures we've had all year or even some of the highest temperatures we've had for the past few years, hot temperature news is coming through thick and fast. From bosses sending employees home because of the hot temperatures. To gardeners being blamed by water companies for drops in water pressure. We thought it would be highly amusing to put together a snap shot of all the different wild and curious news which has been sprouting up because of this unpredicted heat wave, enjoy!

  • The last weekend Seven Trent Water customers were reported to have used 76.9 million gallons (350 million litres) of water. Which when estimated could fill 175,000 paddling pools.
  • Seven Trent Water have also told their customers to please not water their gardens overnight, they have said that leaving a sprinkler or hose pipe running can use 220 gallons (1,000 litres) of water every hour. This is more than a family of 4 could normally use in a whole day.
  • We are now officially in a Level Three Heat Wave health watch in London and the South East. This is one step away from a "Red Alert" warning. The MET office have said that this could be the driest July since 1825.
  • A new record yearly high was recorded at Heathrow airport, hitting 31.9 degrees C.
  • One Tesco store in the beach side town of Newquay have put up a sign asking patrons to please keep their tops and shoes on so that they do not put off other customers.
  • Thames Water have reported that "pockets" customers in London are suffering from low water pressure because demand had gone up by 50%.
  • A surge in bottled water sales have been reported at supermarkets, with Waitrose remarking that they believe customers are coming to their frozen food sections simply to cool down.
  • This heat wave could last until the weekend, where we could possibly have 14 consecutive days of temperatures over 28 degrees c.

Remember though - with the increased heat some of us will be showering a lot more, this means that our shower filters are doing a lot more work. So it is a great opportunity to either back flush your shower water filter or buy a replacement cartridge to keep that shower water clean and pure.
